Rallye Monte-Carlo
15th to 20th January 2013
For an introduction into the ranks of M-Sport, it's! Certainly, the Rallye Monte-Carlo will start on Wednesday, but during the shakedown played Tuesday, Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul marked the spirits with the fastest time, while conditions were hellish and changing. Thierry Neuville beat Sébastien Loeb of 2"6, no loss!

The two passages in Moulin-Antraigues and Burzet-St-Martial, the Rallye Monte-Carlo came in the heart of the matter on Wednesday. The opportunity for Loeb to remember that until proven otherwise, he remains the master of the descipline. Author of three of the four scratches, the Alsatian of Switzerland has already made an incredible advance, enjoying smoothly and misfortunes of his opponents. And among these, Thierry Neuville and Nicolas Gilsoul confirmed their good form in the shakedown signing 7th, 3rd and 2nd time, which allowed the provisional fifth rank... before typing in the last stage of the day! Result: a retirement...
Regular as usual, Mikko Hirvonen following on 26 seconds, while Dani Sordo lost time in the fourth stage, really difficult. It's in this area that Jari-Matti Latvala was victim of a puncture that nevertheless allows him to close the top 5. Evgeniy Novikov, Mads Ostberg and Bryan Bouffier completed the top 8 at the end of the first leg.

The second leg of the Rallye Monte-Carlo 2013 began on Thursday morning in still winter weather conditions, and more again, the surprises haven't failed. In Labatie d'Andaure-Lalouvesc, Sébastien Ogier signed his second scratch in this rally ahead of Evgeniy Novikov and the leader Sébastien Loeb. Taking the 4th place, Dani Sordo got the better of Mikko Hirvonen in the overall standings in third position. Less chance for Jari-Matti Latvala, who was dying and tapped, which damaged the front of the car, but leave the Finns in the race. Evgeniy Novikov would emerge as the man of the first halfday, with a scratch in St-Bonnet le Froid-Mahlesab ahead of M-Sport teammates, Mads Ostberg and Juho Hänninen. Jari-Matti Latvala took revenge by taking the fourth fastest time ahead of the Citroën of Dani Sordo, Sébastien Loeb and Mikko Hirvonen. Determined to mark the event footprint, Evgeniy Novikov republished his performance of SS5 in SS6, Lamastre-Gulhoc-Alboussier signing his second scratch, this time before Sébastien Ogier and Mads Ostberg. Sébastien Loeb, Jari-Matti Latvala, Dani Sordo and Juho Hänninen outstripped a Mikko Hirvonen and odds with his Citroën.
With two scratches for Sébastien Loeb and one for Juho Hänninen, the hierarchy of Rallye Monte-Carlo wasn't shaken on Thursday afternoon for the second part of the second leg. The battle for the bottom step of the podium continues to be interesting between Dani Sordo and Evgeniy Novikov. The Russian was less scathing than in the morning, despite a great seconf time in St-Bonnet, and it's a late 15"2 he accused the Spanish. Disappointments of the second day are called Mikko Hirvonen and Jari-Matti Latvala. Both Finns stand out perforance saw tooth, and the fifth and sixth places have little to do with their original claims. Finally, the achievement of this second part of the leg is put on the account of another Finn JUho Hänninen, who signed the scratch in St-Bonnet! Former Official Skoda is still expected to return to its prestigious compatriots, but for now, it remains seventh. As for Mads Ostberg continues to scrounge time on a Bryan Bouffier suffering compete. 3"7 separate the two drivers after 10 of the 18 stages that this Monte-Carlo count in good order...

No big changes on Friday on the front of the Rallye Monte-Carlo, Sébastien Loeb continuing his recital by offering a new scratch in Sisteron-Thoard, not without more than limited the damage in St-Nazaire-le-Désert (5th at 7"5). French has only swallowed the last day of the initial round of the WRC in 2013 to enjoy another victory, and regular, he can't lose more.
Respectively 4th and 3rd against the clock, Sébastien Ogier reinforces of course he's second place overall, is now recovering at 1'47" of Sébastien Loeb. Behind it happens, with the result of the offensive of the Russian Evgeniy Novikov, an excellent second in the 12th stage before losing more time in the final stretch of the day. But Evgeniy Novikov continues to attract and raid the third place of Dani Sordo, ending up with a minimalist edge 1"7. Nothing is done.
Another way to witness, that operated in the fifth position between Jari-Matti Latvala and Mikko Hirvonen. It's still clear, and he says too careful, especially in the braking zones. The Polo is passed to 14"2.
The top 8 is completed by M-Sport Ford's of Juho Hänninen and Mads Ostberg, the latter having made headlines by signing scratch in St-Nazaire-le-Désert. This means that all drivers of Malcolm Wilson have signed at least one scratch... except Neuville, too quickly disappeared.

Sébastien Loeb hiself announced: the last leg of the Rallye Monte-Carlo, rich of 5 stages, would still be rich in race events. Confirmation from the first stage, the Col du Turini, with a cascading drop among the leaders. Starting with... Evgeniy Novikov, whose number tightrope will ultimataly not last until the end. From the beginning of the stage, the Russian tore a wheel and was forced to stay there... A few kilometers further, it's Jari-Matti Latvala and Juho Hänninen who left turn at fault! What seriously skim the top 10. The first scratch of the day was signed by... Bryan Bouffier on his private Citroën DS3 WRC! He clearly beat Mads Ostberg, Sébastien Ogier and Sébastien Loeb.
The following stage, this of Lantosque-Luceram was thankfully much quieter than the Col du Turini, what advantage the Spaniard Dani Sordo to sign his first scratch in the official Citroën DS3 WRC. He was ahead of Mikko Hirvonen more comfortable in the rain, while Sébastien Ogier, Sébastien Loeb and decidedly fast Bryan Bouffier completed the top 5.
The second pass through the Col du Turini was less murderer as the first, and abandonment of Evgeniy Novikov, Jari-Matti Latvala and Juho Hänninen are now forgotten. In the early evening, the drivers take extra caution, not leaving the two marks on the road, to avoid going off the road. Under these conditions, Sébastien Loeb once again has provided most, ahead of Sébastien Ogier 4"00. The nine-time world champion is at two stages, including a new passage through the Turini, of his 77th WRC win. If Dani Sordo hasn't taken all the risks, and if Mikko Hirvonen still eft more than a minute, seeming to satisfy with the fourth place, it's Mads Ostberg who was the worst operation, apparently the victim of a contact which damaged his rear suspension.

We were expecting an interesting end of the rally, even though the first two places seemed to be fixed, and we got right to... nothing! Given the ubiquity of spectators on the last two stages of the Rallye Monte-Carlo, the organizers of the ACM took the decision to cancel the final part of the rally. So after 16 stages the classification was approved, will enable Citroën to achieve an incredible shot together with Sébastien Loeb 1st, Dani Sordo 3rd, Mikko Hirvonen 4th and Bryan Bouffier 5th. But make no mistake, despite the exit of Jari-Matti Latvala, Volkswagen has more than achieved its appearance in the World Rally, with an outstanding 2nd place signed by Sébastien Ogier, the first competitor participating in the entire competition. For M-Sport, the picture is much more mixed, with three road trips, and an only 6th place for Mads Ostberg, who made a mistake in the last sector actually played.
