The event did a splash! Advanced in reason of heavy rains announced Sunday in the Ardennes, the start of the ELMS 4 Hours of Spa was given under Safety Car. And as could be feared, the green flag periodes where to short, several incidents - no serious thankfully - returning the Safety Car regularly to the track. Just after that the 2 first hours of the race had been spent, the rain was heavyer, and the Race Direction took out the red flag... to finally declare the end of the race a few minutes later! Frustrating, sure, but in this conditions, it was better...
It's the cars that stayed on the track at the moment of the stop of the race who pulled the chestnuts out of fire. United Autosports, the team of Zak Brown, that arose with the Ligier JSP2017 #22, driven by Philip Hanson who gives quickly the steering at Filipe Albuquerque, who was magical in this conditions! First vctory this season for the US team, who beat the DragonSpeed Oreca #21 of Hedman / Hanley / Lapierre and the Panis Barthez Compétition Ligier #21 of Buret / Canal / Stevens!
As for the G-Drive Racing Oreca #26 of Rusinov / Pizzitola / Vergne, who takes the pole position, she had a delicate progression, Andrea Pizzitola making some mistakes on this delicate track, before giving the steering to Jean-Eric Vergne who probably wanted to do too much, pushing the Proton Competition Porsche #77 of Christian Ried, who finally stamping the EuroInternational Ligier #12 of Dayson in the Chicane! Vergne received a Stop & Go of 2 minutes, that he never purged in reason of the stop of the race. But even returned at the 14th position , the G-Drive Oreca tokes the ELMS 2018 title, while the Portimao race figure again on the program.
In LMP3, we saw a sparkling Antonn Borga at the steering of the Cool Racing Ligier JSP3 #4... before a pitstop just before the stop of the race. And it's... United Autosports which was once again bursting with the Ligier #2 of John Falb and Scott Andrews, just before the RLR Msport Ligier #15 of Farano / Van Uytert / Garofall and the 360 Racing Ligier #6 of Woodward / Kaiser.
Finally, in LM GTE, Porsche embodies with the Ebimotors 911 RSR of the excellent Riccardo Pera and teammates Babini and Curtis, who beats the Spirit of Race Ferrari #55 of Cameron / Griffin / Scott and the Proton Competition Porsche 911 RSR #88 of Roda / Roda / Cairoli.
