Legend Boucles at Bastoge 2016
20th to 21st February 2016
Despite a decayed weather throughout the weekend, the public is once again came in number to witness the Legend Boucles, the unquestionable popular event of this season, bringing together 278 crews starting in Bastogne. In the absence of the winner of the last three editions, hunting for the succession of François Duval was still very open. Yet the fight for victory was really concerned only two drivers.

Arrived Thursday to contest this first rally in Belgium, but also first historic rally driving a propulsion, the Mystery Driver Markko Martin created a semi-surprise by leading the first half of the rally in his Ford Escort Mk II Gr.4. In a style that is both clean and efficient, the Estonian led for nine stages. But in the dark, he could not resist to the return of Bernard Munster (Porsche 911 BMA), striking a blow in the justice of the Macrale. Only driver to succeed in sticking to the average of 80 km/h with halberds, the giant of Kortrijk stuck suddenly thirty points to his main rival. The rally was tipping.

And while it was thought that the former five-time WRC winner was able to benefit from its global experience to return to earth in the second stage Sunday, it was just the opposite that was happening. Taking advantage of retreaded tires from France, obviously more suited to this type pf terrain and fully complaint, Bernard Munster drove the nail, while Markko Martin finally lost all hope of returning to bursting in Arboisière.
The Porsche driver therefore had more than manage an advance paid to arrival at 59.39 points for his second victory sign at the Boucles, the first at Bastogne and in Legend, before his success dating back to the modern edition of 1999 with a Subaru Impreza.

Absent from the World Rally since a decade, a lack of competition, Markko Martin has honored the invitation of the organizers and MY Vintage. Author of the penultimate best time, Martin won the first access with honors.

A long time side by side with the pilot came from the East, Jean-Pierre Van de Wauwer completed the podium after resisting until the end the return of the Porsche 911 of Yves Matton and Daniel Elena.
